Kitten in distress!!.
Looking For A Pup.. Andy, my boyfriend, was due to arrive in Seoul in a few days, we hadn't been together long (only a few short months) but decided to give it a go and cement our relationship by adopting a dog together. I'd been scrolling the Korean Animal Rescue...
I had a very small narrow apartment in Hoegi ( my kitchen had about 1 foot of walking space) where I was teaching Kindergarten. In my apartment I had 2 cats Sherlock and Phinnaeus and was taking care of my friend’s cat Sami. There was a bar window in my bedroom that overlooked a backyard that was full of old rotting furniture and building materials. One day I heard constant mewing and looking out of my window I saw a small black kitten crying with his eyes goopy and completely shut. I did see the mother cat periodically but she left him many hours.
Getting into the backyard was a feat that required a lot of climbing over walls and junk, but I managed to find him, because the kitten was sick he was relatively easy to locate and catch. I wiped off his eyes and took him to the vet. We talked about the best course for him. She suggested that after cleaning him up I return him to his mother and keep an eye on him. He was so sick he couldn’t see when his eyes were gooped up he couldn’t follow his mom. She gave me some eye drops and said it would be good to wipe his eyes and give him drops every day if possible.
His mother was still in the picture but she kept leaving for many hours and he kept crying in the backyard. A little later I thought he was looking worse so I caught him again and took him to the vet. She said on top of the infection he also had a severe case of ringworm. She suggested he probably wouldn’t make it and if I could I should rescue him.
His ringworm was so bad he lost almost all of his fur. After a few weeks he recovered. Although as a kitten he was 99.9% black, the effects of the ringworm gave him many white patches and some bald spots. This is the only time I got ringworm from a cat. Just a small patch near my shoulder. I was surprised when the acupuncturist said she would burn it out lol. Ouch!!
I really only wanted to keep the first kitten I found but the next 2 seemed out of my control, a whim of providence. Someone up there knows I can’t say no to sick kittens or pups. Not that I don’t love them but they add complications and expenses. Also the 3rd kitten added some dynamic issues thatI didn’t know until later. Still Geumdong is a beautiful member of our ever growing animal family.
