Hoegi, Seoul - In the Backyard I had a very small narrow apartment in Hoegi ( my kitchen had about 1 foot of walking space) where I was teaching Kindergarten. In my apartment I had 2 cats Sherlock and Phinnaeus and was taking care of my friend's cat Sami. There was...
Phinnaeus Crookedtail, Cat #2
Another cat comes along.... This is Phinnaeus Crookedtail, so named because his tail in the middle shoots off at a 90 degree angle. I was coming home late one night from teaching Kindergarten, very tired. It was already dark. The Hoegi neighborhood in Seoul that I...

Looking For A Pup.. Andy, my boyfriend, was due to arrive in Seoul in a few days, we hadn't been together long (only a few short months) but decided to give it a go and cement our relationship by adopting a dog together. I'd been scrolling the Korean Animal Rescue...
Sherlock
Rescue Number 1 Sherlock
Landing in Seoul for my Teacher Training I had no desire for a pet. I was in a new country starting a new job but after my first workshop day that changed.
I was looking out the window where I was temporarily housed and noticed on the roof below a mother cat with 4 kittens running awkwardly around her. They were so adorable to watch. Half of the roof was covered in tattered fabric and looked a little like an outside attic storage space. I heard the mewing of a kitten in distress so I went to investigate. One small black and white kitten had fallen off of the roof and onto the school grounds and was hiding under some twigs. I picked the kitten up and placed it carefully back on the roof and watched it return to mother cat.
Kittens in distress!!!
Unfortunately the owner of the house was a loud drunk man who wasn’t happy about the kittens being on his roof. Perhaps the mewing annoyed him? The next day I watched in horror as he chased the kittens over the side of the roof. 3 kittens fell behind and between onto his property and one kitten fell on the school side. I got some Korean teachers to ask him if I could come up and get the kittens but he refused saying it was too dangerous for me to look for them. It was traumatic. I was able to find the one that had fallen on the school side and I brought him into the apartment.

I took him to the vet and she said he was about 5 weeks old. Luckily he was healthy. However he was very afraid and hid under the bookcase, I had to tip it over to get to him. After a few days he came out and little by little he played, but it took several months for him to really warm up.
I wondered if he had been traumatized by his experience. One day playing in the sun on the roof, the next day falling and being separated from your cat family?
Happawly Ever After Ending
Personality wise he is my best cat. He is so gentle. It amazes me how much he trusts me. I have now had him for 6 years. Over the years I have rescued dogs and cats and I do feel for him because he prefers calm and quiet.
Although it was a happy ending for Sherlock and me it was just the beginning!!
